The Grimsby Wargames Society was originally established by a group of enthusiastic wargamers 30 years ago. It has been based in several places in the area: The Newby centre at Weelsby Woods and The Rear of a house down Ladysmith Road before our present premises were finally bought by us in the late 70's. Downstairs we have a large 18 foot table for really large wargaming scenarios along with 4 small tables upstairs for other smaller games.
There are no specific wargaming periods we play but they range from Ancients to the Futuristic Killzone. Darkson Designs - Darkson Designs started out as a one-man painting service of miniatures about 10 years ago. Then Darkson (Robert) met the designs (Crystal) side of the business. She turned it from just a simple freelance painting service to a fully operational business. About a year ago we started playing with the idea of producing a painting guide. Robert has always wanted to see a non-company specific painting guide, since he felt it would be of value to him, as a painter. Crystal ran with the idea and made it a reality. In turn, we have had a great impact on the miniature community, and in helping to expose miniature lines and artists that people may not have been familiar with. Through the creation of the book and the great contacts made, Robert was able to branch out and do something he always wanted to do, create his own miniature line. From this idea AE-WWII, was born, (Alternate Events World War 2). The Hutt Club - A local gaming club in New Zealand! And for those of you who stumbled on to this site by accident and have no idea what it's all about: miniature wargaming is a hobby where otherwise perfectly normal grown men and women (well, okay, more men than women) spend their time playing with toy soldiers on a more or less realistic model battlefield. There is a lot more to miniature wargaming than just playing with toy soldiers of course, as the hobby brings together such various activities as researching history, painting figures and modelling terrain along with the gaming itself. This variety is what makes miniature wargaming such an interesting and rewarding hobby. Feel free to browse this site from the links on the left for more information on our club and the hobby in general. You might be talked into something new as well!
